Hi guys!
What a month this has been! How are you?
I will keep this newsletter short because I am exhausted, but very happy.
It turns out, not a having a “professional photographer” shooting the book was a blessing; in fact, I am having the time of my life photographing all the 80 dishes, with the help of a very talented friend, Erica Canales. Besides being an amazing singer, her creativity, her aesthetic, and her sensibility are enriching this project more than I could have ever wished for.
I am cooking all morning, shooting all afternoon, then cooking again at night, before editing the photos and the manuscript. Never in my life have I been so happy and fulfilled.
The background music we have been listening to has been quite eclectic, from 1st Wave channel on Sirius XM to the soundtrack of Reality Bites, Leonard Cohen to Louis Armstrong, K Jazz radio and School of Seven Bells.
We are shooting 5 recipes per day and I am very proud of what we are achieving. Some of my favorite, so far, have been: honey lavender cassata, pumpkin and rice soup, and winter wonderland sourdough galette!
The book is scheduled to come out on my birthday, January 25th, 2022, and I will soon reveal the title.
What else is happening?
– I am coming to terms with the fact that my brain tends to amplify feelings, and this is helping me have a much more serene life. I am getting better at pausing, at filtering emotions, memories…and at choosing happiness over righteousness (this is a hard one for me).
– During a recent therapy session, I realized that I am making a shift from the old concept of “being different” to the concept of “making a difference”. That’s how I have been able to live more in gratitude rather than guilt, in doing something right and useful with the bounty I was given, rather than feeling unworthy of it.
– I have received the first dose of Moderna vaccine.
– Catherine is going to pre-school and loving it; she is being extremely challenging, but she is growing so fast that a part of me wants to stop time forever, right this moment.
– Talking to a friend when I needed it, a few weeks ago, lifted a weight I had been carrying for a long time. I don’t know how I keep forgetting that we don’t have to do this alone, motherhood, parenthood, marriage, life…
– I have started taking baths with Epson salts at night, before bed, after editing the photos, and I have no intention to stop. I am going to take one now: it’s 9:39 pm on Tuesday night as I type this, tomorrow will be March 31st, and this is your March newsletter.
See you next month.
Love,
Alice

I approve of Epsom Salt Baths! Glad to hear that it’s all going well, it does look like a very ambitious and busy schedule. Remember to schedule that self-care. I have now started my new project after being closed down by C19, like you its gonna be a lot of work but it is energising me.
Love reading these Alice! So glad your doing what you love.

You are truly an inspiration! I get so wrapped up watching your show that I can’t remember the ingredients for what you are making. REALLY looking forward to your cookbook! Excited for you!
Alice, what a schedule you are keeping. Sounds like you are thriving. Can’t wait to buy the book!!!!!
At 60 I have finally learned that we Mothers/Wives/Daughters never have to be alone if only we will reach out those who have come before us. You, Alice, are an inspiration 💕
Hi Alice,
Thank you for all you do. Your Instagram streams are a delight to watch and the recipes are amazing.
Thank you for the beautiful candid thoughts you post. We never want to think that anyone else may be going through some of the painful feelings in life that we experience but it certainly helps when we find we’re not alone in the journey and that others “get it”. I, too, struggle with guilt. I find it hard to be happy when I know others aren’t. I am learning to take my blessings and share and make a difference in any way I can.
Hi Alice,
Thank you for taking the time to do your newsletter, I appreciate being able to read your thoughts and experiences.
Do you recommend any books that you have come across in your therapy? You seem to have been able to address some issues that I have experienced myself. We are not alone, right? We are all a work in progress in this life.
I look forward to your cookbook!
Sincerely, Lin
